Business Planning Guide
A business plan is a written map of how your company will operate and grow. Banks, investors, and partners use it to see whether your idea is thought through. You can also use it internally to align your team on priorities.
Six sections to include
- Executive summary. One page that states the product, target customer, and revenue model. Write this last even though it appears first.
- Company description. Legal structure, location, and the problem you solve. Keep it factual and short.
- Market analysis. Name your competitors, estimate market size, and explain why customers would pick you.
- Products and services. Describe what you sell, your price points, and any delivery or support details.
- Marketing and sales. List the channels you will use, such as referrals, social media, or direct sales calls, and set a monthly lead target.
- Financial projections. Include a 12-month cash flow table, a break-even estimate, and the funding you need to reach it.
Before you share the draft
Read the plan aloud with someone who knows your industry. Ask them to flag numbers that look too optimistic and sections that repeat the same point. Update dates, names, and figures every quarter so the file stays current.
